Jochen Küpper opened the discussion of the paper by John Spence by commenting: Dear Speakers, following the discussions of relevant time-scales in your papers and especially based on the suggestion of John Spence, that biology is made up of "slow processes", I would like to hear your opinion on what are the relevant timescales to understand nature. What range of time-scales are relevant for the understanding of complex chemical and biological systems? What is the most important timescale (maybe in terms of SI prex) to understand? And which is the most important timescale to investigate over the next years?
